A Piece of Burgundy Gîtes and accomodation  are based in the famous Rrgion of Burgundy.  You will find many varied regions, sights and sounds around the countryside of Burgundy.  From the wide open spaces of the Chatillonaise, the valleys and canals of the Auxios, the forests of the plateau de Langres to the Champagne vineyards to the north.

The Chatillonaise
With its capital town Chatillon sur Seine, a magnificant provincial town with its impressive stone fronted buildings, this region gives birth to the famous river Seine as it starts its journey to Paris.

There are expanses of rolling countryside dotted with church steeples in the hollows and the picture-postcard villages with family restaurants, boules courts and chateaux.

There is also the recently restored Xth Century church of St Vorles at Chatillon, Alesia; the historic village where the European Gualles lost to the Romans, the Chateaux of Bussy Rubatin, Rochefort and much much more.

  The Plateau de Langres
To the east of the Chatillonaise region is the forested region of the Plateau de Langres that stretches from the borders of Chatillon sur Seine to the old fortified city of Langres itself.

There are many beuatiful villages here, the tranquil River Ource running through many of them.  The Ource valley is as equally as spectacular as the Seine with its forested valley sides, meandering clear waters and lovely mill houses and bridges.

The Auxois
This valley filled area is to west of the Chatillonaise from the TGV town of Montbard towards Auxerre.  It capital town is Semur en Auxois with its century old battlements and crocked tower, cobbled streets and beautiful architecture.  This includes some of the spectacular Chateaux, such as Bussy-Rubatin.

The Burgundy Canal runs through this region, giving quiet, relaxing walks or cruises as it gently links Dijon to Paris, passing peaceful restaurants, parks and sleepy villages.

Then there are the lakes, especially the magnificant Lac de Pont just south of Semur itself that was built to feed the Burgundy Canal.  Here you can sail, canoe, pedalo and water ski.  Or simply laze on the beach, stroll along the banks, maybe relax in the bar.

  Vineyards of Champagne
More famous even than the river Seine is the region of Champagne, giving its name to the worlds favourite celebration drink.  Synomonous with excellence and opulance Champagne has so much more to offer.

A piece of Burgundy's area extends to the southern Champagne department of the Aube, with Troyes as its capital city, as it was the old capital of the whole of Champagne until Riems overtook it.  The old centre of Troyes is in fact formed in the shape of a Champagne cork.
